WWW Wednesday – [24/08/2016]

The WWW Wednesdays meme is currently hosted by Sam @Taking on a World of Words and is a great way to do a weekly update on what you’ve been reading and what you have planned.

To take part all you have to do is answer the following three questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

Here is this weeks WWW Wednesday

What books I am currently reading

Before I Go To Sleep
By S.J. Watson

This book is for TBR Pen Pals in the For Love of a Book group on Goodreads. I have seen the movie for this and I am excited to read this book.

As I sleep, my mind will erase everything I did today. I will wake up tomorrow as I did this morning. Thinking I’m still a child, thinking I have a whole lifetime of choice ahead of me…

Memories define us. So what if you lost yours every time you went to sleep? Your name, your identity, your past, even the people you love–all forgotten overnight. And the one person you trust may only be telling you half the story.

Welcome to Christine’s life.

What books I recently finish reading

Ari: To Each His Ghost #1
By S.M. Boyce

I love a good paranormal ghost / demon story and this book is ticking those boxes while still being a light and easy read. See my full review here.

A Ghostly Paranormal Horror Novel

A crumbling farmhouse lies on the outskirts of the sleepy borough of White Haven, Pennsylvania. No one lives there anymore, but it’s never been empty.

Ari Bowers is a nerdy high school junior with a crush on the Varsity wide receiver and a healthy fear of the paranormal. When her crush Marcus Wagner takes her on a date-gone-wrong to the local haunted farmhouse, her fear is tested. A dark entity latches onto them both in that house, and they pay for their mistake with blood.

Marcus won’t admit something followed him home from the farmhouse even though shadows lurk in his periphery. It’s a prank, all of it… until a local girl dies with similar wounds on her body. Now he’s convinced he’s gone insane. His life spirals out of control, and it all boils down to his stupid date with Ari. As he sinks into addiction and women to ease his pain, he’s left with a choice: lose everything, or acknowledge the darkness slowly taking over his soul. He’s running out of time, and if he doesn’t face this creature, it’s going to take him the same way it took Ari.

For Ari and Marcus, it’s not about whether or not monsters lurk in the dark—they just don’t know which one is after them.

Marvelry’s Curiosity Shop
by John Brhel

I received this eBook free from the For Love of a Book group on Goodreads in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book, the short stories made it a fun and easy read. Full review to come.

Retired stage magician Dr. Marvelry prefers to stock his antique store with strange and occult items. He has always enjoyed meeting odd people and hearing their stories, the legends attached to mysterious objects. A phonograph that seemingly replays a tragedy. Fertility dolls that are more than decoration. A bedeviled mannequin. These are just some of the relics this eccentric shopkeeper has collected over the years.

No two customers will have the same experience in his curiosity shop — some walk away satisfied, others are never heard from again. But one thing is certain – when you purchase an item at this store, you often get more than what you paid for.

Follow Marvelry and his hexed objects through twelve tales of suspense, magic, terror, and transformation. Meet his new assistant, fellow illusionists, and some irregular characters along the way. Whatever macabre artifact of the human psyche you’re seeking – you’ll find something special in Marvelry’s Curiosity Shop.

What books I think I’ll read next?

Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone
By J.K. Rowling

I am beyond excited to read this book again… for the millionith time!!
Just looking at the cover of this book makes me ridiculously happy. This book as part of the Serial Series Reading Challenge in the For Love of a Book group on Goodreads.

Harry Potter thinks he is an ordinary boy – until he is rescued by an owl, taken to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, learns to play Quidditch and does battle in a deadly duel. The Reason … HARRY POTTER IS A WIZARD!

Envy (Empty Coffin #1)
by Gregg Olsen

I picked up this book because of the cover. Fingers crossed the story is just as creepy.

Crime lives–and dies–in the deceptively picture-perfect town of Port Gamble (aka “Empty Coffin”), Washington. Evil lurks and strange things happen–and 15-year-olds Hayley and Taylor Ryan secretly use their wits and their telepathic “twin-sense” to uncover the truth about the town’s victims and culprits.

Envy, the series debut, involves the mysterious death of the twins’ old friend, Katelyn. Was it murder? Suicide? An accident? Hayley and Taylor are determined to find out–and as they investigate, they stumble upon a dark truth that is far more disturbing than they ever could have imagined.

Luckiest Girl Alive
by Jessica Knoll

This book is for TBR Randomiser Challenge in the 2016 Reading Challenge group on Goodreads.

As a teenager at the prestigious Bradley School, Ani FaNelli endured a shocking, public humiliation that left her desperate to reinvent herself. Now, with a glamorous job, expensive wardrobe, and handsome blue blood fiancé, she’s this close to living the perfect life she’s worked so hard to achieve.

But Ani has a secret.

There’s something else buried in her past that still haunts her, something private and painful that threatens to bubble to the surface and destroy everything.

With a singular voice and twists you won’t see coming, Luckiest Girl Alive explores the unbearable pressure that so many women feel to “have it all” and introduces a heroine whose sharp edges and cutthroat ambition have been protecting a scandalous truth, and a heart that’s bigger than it first appears.

The question remains: will breaking her silence destroy all that she has worked for—or, will it at long last, set Ani free?

Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined (Twilight #1.75)
by Stephenie Meyer

This book is for TBR Pen Pals in the For Love of a Book group on Goodreads. I have read the complete Twilight series, so I am excited to give this one a go.

Celebrate the tenth anniversary of Twilight! This special double-feature book includes the classic novel, Twilight, and a bold and surprising reimagining, Life and Death, by Stephenie Meyer.

Packaged as an oversize, jacketed hardcover “flip book,” this edition features nearly 400 pages of new content as well as exquisite new back cover art. Readers will relish experiencing the deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful love story of Bella and Edward through fresh eyes.

Have you read any of the books above or have any other book you’d recommend?

  1. Haha, yeah I just got approved for some books I wanted on Edelweiss and NetGalley, so I am probably not going to get around to reading the stack of books on my shelf anytime soon! I also had to re-evaluate the challenges I was taking part in on Goodreads. Lol, worth it though.

I am constantly adding to my ever growing tbr pile on my shelf at home. My partner is always asking why I keep buying more books when I have a pile I haven’t read. He doesn’t understand that it’s better to have them sitting there waiting to be read instead of not buying them haha.

    1. Thank you 🙂

I’m a bit excited to read Twilight Reimagined, I loved the Twilight series when it came out.
Was not a fan of the movies though, mainly because of the Edward/Bella casting. I think that sort of ruined the books for me 😦
I hope you get around to reading it soon 🙂

  2. Happy humpday to you too 🙂

I really enjoyed Before I Go to Sleep when I read it a few years ago. The book is most definitely better than the film.

I’m kind of tempted by Envy. That cover really draws you in and I’ve been looking for a creepy horror story. Can’t wait to see what you think.
