July ’17 TBR List

Okay so June wasn’t the best… But it was an improvement on the last couple of months haha. So I am going to keep my TBR list short and sweet!!

Best Day Ever

Oh I am so excited for this book!! It sounds amazing. Thanks to Harlequin Australia for sending me a gorgeous copy of this book.

35285683“As I opened the door and stepped into the humid night, her scream followed me out. But I knew there was still love for me in her heart…

I’m unforgettable.”

Paul Strom has the perfect life: a glittering career as an advertising executive, a beautiful wife, two healthy boys and a big house in a wealthy suburb. And he’s the perfect husband: breadwinner, protector, provider. That’s why he’s planned a romantic weekend for his wife, Mia, at their lake house, just the two of them. And he’s promised today will be the best day ever.

But as Paul and Mia drive out of the city and toward the countryside, a spike of tension begins to wedge itself between them and doubts start to arise. How perfect is their marriage, or any marriage, really? How much do they trust each other? Is Paul the person he seems to be? And what are his secret plans for their weekend at the cottage?

Forcing us to ask ourselves just how well we know those who are closest to us, Best Day Ever crackles with dark energy, spinning ever tighter toward its shocking conclusion. In the bestselling, page-turning vein of The Couple Next Door and The Dinner, Kaira Rouda weaves a gripping, tautly suspenseful tale of deception and betrayal dark enough to destroy a marriage…or a life.

One Dark Throne (Three Dark Crowns #2)

Eeeek!! Been dying to read this book since I finished Three Dark Crowns. I nearly died when I got approved for it on Edelweiss!! Super grateful and super excited!!

29923707The battle for the Crown has begun, but which of the three sisters will prevail?

With the unforgettable events of the Quickening behind them and the Ascension Year underway, all bets are off. Katharine, once the weak and feeble sister, is stronger than ever before. Arsinoe, after discovering the truth about her powers, must figure out how to make her secret talent work in her favor without anyone finding out. And Mirabella, once thought to be the strongest sister of all and the certain Queen Crowned, faces attacks like never before—ones that put those around her in danger she can’t seem to prevent.

In this enthralling sequel to Kendare Blake’s New York Times bestselling Three Dark Crowns, Fennbirn’s deadliest queens must face the one thing standing in their way of the crown: each other.

The Fact of a Body: A Murder and a Memoir

I received this book from Macmillan Australia. So far they have sent me some great books so I am looking forward to reading this one.

34229882Before Alexandria Marzano-Lesnevich begins a summer job at a law firm in Louisiana, working to help defend men accused of murder, she thinks her position is clear. The child of two lawyers, she is staunchly anti-death penalty. But the moment convicted murderer Ricky Langley’s face flashes on the screen as she reviews old tapes―the moment she hears him speak of his crimes―she is overcome with the feeling of wanting him to die. Shocked by her reaction, she digs deeper and deeper into the case. Despite their vastly different circumstances, something in his story is unsettlingly, uncannily familiar.

Crime, even the darkest and most unsayable acts, can happen to any one of us. As Alexandria pores over the facts of the murder, she finds herself thrust into the complicated narrative of Ricky’s childhood. And by examining the details of Ricky’s case, she is forced to face her own story, to unearth long-buried family secrets, and reckon with a past that colors her view of Ricky’s crime.

But another surprise awaits: She wasn’t the only one who saw her life in Ricky’s.

An intellectual and emotional thriller that is also a different kind of murder mystery, THE FACT OF A BODY is a book not only about how the story of one crime was constructed―but about how we grapple with our own personal histories. Along the way it tackles questions about the nature of forgiveness, and if a single narrative can ever really contain something as definitive as the truth. This groundbreaking, heart-stopping work, ten years in the making, shows how the law is more personal than we would like to believe―and the truth more complicated, and powerful, than we could ever imagine.

What books, if any, are you planning on reading this month??

  1. What kind of magic do you use to get approved on Edelweiss 😂😂 I gave up so long ago. I was a little disappointed in Three Dark Crowns, but with it how it ended I’m super hyped for One Dark Throne! Looking forward to seeing what you think 😀 Also Best Day Ever has such a pretty cover.

    1. Haha dark magic apparently 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ I honestly have no idea how I get approved. I sacrifice a virgin to the Edelweiss publisher gods on a weekly basis 😂😂

TDC was a bit slow in places. I loved it because it built up the world and characters. Definitely super hyped for ODT. I started it last night 😱😱

I have the red US cover, it has pretty pages.
I have to use the AUS one for publishers, plus it’s prettier 😂😂

  2. Sometimes it is good to not have the biggest TBR, especially if you are in a reading slump 🙂 I don’t know what I’ll be reading yet. I have to read some arcs. I’m going on a vacation to Croatia, so I will be bringing some easy paperback books, and my Kindle 🙂

            1. Yeah it is definitely better to be aware of the complaints and issues other readers has. It’s the worst when you go into a book with high expectations and the book doesn’t live up to them.
I hope you enjoy the book though!

  3. So I forgot to tell you: I went to the PO today with two books for someone, and I asked them how much for that weight to your house, and they said $22.75 USD. I’m assuming the weight will be the same with One Dark Throne and There’s Someone In Your House. But it’s worth it for those two ARCs!
I just wish I could do media mail and send you more: I got Kristin Ritter’s Bonfire and of course the Anna Faris book and I would lend them to you to read 😞

    1. Thank you 😊😊 Was super exciting to be approved for One Dark Throne!!!
Best Day Ever has pretty red cover for the US copy, I’m not sure which I like better haha. But it sounds like a dark and ominous read, so I cant wait to pick it up!!
