Review : One of Us is Lying

One of Us is Lying

Karen M. McManus

Paperback, 360 pages

R.R.P – $17.99 AUD

My Thoughts…

I absolutely adored this book! The Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little Liars, what's not to love!! I wish this was a movie or tv series, it would be so good!!!

Five students enter detention, but only four make it out alive. What happened in that room and what are the other four students hiding?
With numerous twists and turns, the author manages to keep you guessing throughout the whole book. It also helps that all the characters have a motive and act suspicious.

As the book states we are left with your average teen-movie stereotypes; the criminal, the jock, the princess and the brain. The Breakfast club minus Alison the basket case.

"She's a princess, you're a jock," he says. He thrusts his chin toward Bronwyn, then at Nate. "And you're a brain. And you're a criminal. You're all walking teen-movie stereotypes."

The story is told from these characters POVs. The author has managed to give each character a lot more depth than you would expect from your average teen stereotype. And they each have their own distinctive voice, so you are never confused as to which character is telling the story. It is great seeing the characters grow throughout the book, especially Addy who is in an abusive relationship.

I found this book to be an easy, enjoyable read that keeps you guessing. The story flows easily and the characters are likeable. I highly recommend this book if you are a fan of YA and / or mysteries!! 😊😊

I would like to thank the author and Penguin Australia for sending me a copy of this fantastic book.
